As we saw in the previous chapter, Casca does not know the truth of the Eclipse.

What remains in her memory is the senseless terror of “slaughter and violation by monsters (Apostles) who appeared without warning”; and even the memory of pleasure with Griffith (Femto), whom she adored, can become a trigger that brings the trauma back. To keep her heart from collapsing under such an overload, it seems that a “psychological emergency evacuation (dissociation)” came into play, separating her perception from that place.

Yet this “sealing of the core” and “repetition of the symbols of terror” ended up building, inside her mind, a hopeless “state of isolation through dissociation” that no rescue from outside could reach.

Why was her heart shut inside a locked room from which she could not escape on her own? This chapter examines that psychological structure.

## 1) Senseless Cruelty—The Impossibility of “Making Sense”

This is where the free preview ends. The rest of this chapter is available in the PDF edition of **Anatomy of Fate and Causality*.

In the rest of this chapter (Section 1 through the Conclusion), we uncover why Casca cannot make sense of the Eclipse, and the contradiction that blocks her path to recovery. We then examine why the intervention of Schierke and the others was "the only miracle," tracing the structure of the locked room that sealed her heart.

The PDF edition contains all seven chapters. Chapter 7, the climax of the book, can also be read in full in the PDF.
